The Weight Of Our Goals
Yesterday, we talked about harnessing our planning skills to fulfill our life goals. And we usually associate this with big goals, like making a difference through our vocations, changing the world and making it a better place, having a successful career, attaining a certain position in the company/organization/group/society, earning a certain income, saving our 1st million $, owning a forever home, living a certain lifestyle, raising good kids (our definition of "good") etc.
And oftentimes, our identity is tied up with these lofty goals.
So what happens when all things fall apart and these goals become delayed or unachievable?
Our identity cracks. We fall apart. We can end up shaken, disheartened, disillusioned, lost. Lost like a forlorn ship without a sail on the vast ocean.
There is absolutely nothing wrong in having big, lofty goals. In fact, they are essential and part of making meaning of life.
What if the other part of making life meaningful is finding magic in the mundane?
I'll talk more about this tomorrow. But what do you think? Can the mundane things in our everyday lives make our lives meaningful?
